Technical Information and Standards

Testing, benchmarking, and documenting is critical to delivering the highest quality, functionality and reliability in structured cabling systems and A/V installations. We use the right test procedures, instruments and technologies while exceeding all provincial building codes and regulations.

Cabling standards and termination capabilities

  • Low voltage-copper and high-bandwidth/high-frequency applications: analog/digital multi-pair voice/audio spectrum, remote-control, signaling, and power-limited circuits
  • Ethernet ('n'-base-T) UTP Cat 5/6/7, Modular 8P8C/8PMJ (RJ45)
  • Ethernet T1 data lines STP/SFTP Cat 8 Modular 8P8C/8PMJ (RJ-48)
  • POTS: RJ-11/14/25 for Local Exchange Carrier (LEC)
  • RF 50/75 ohm general purpose coaxial BNC/TNC/N/F-type (RG-6/59/11), tri-axial for broadcast, special application RF amd microwave
  • Riser (CMR) and Plenum (CMP) requirements, high/low temp commercial and industrial grade/rugged applications
  • Analog audio signal, balanced/unbalanced, mic, line-level, video fantails, Socapex©, Neutrik SpeakON©
  • AES/EBU, ADAT, S/PDIF/Toslink/RCA, HDMI
  • Fibre channel data - single/multimode: LC/SC/ST/FC/MPO/MPT - ICT/BCT channels
  • DMX-512 stage lighting control - USITT standard, DMX-512-A/eDMX (DMX-over-Ethernet) - ANSI E1.11 standard

A high-performance data and communications network starts with high quality cables and interconnecting hardware. We recommend well-regarded manufacturers such as Belden, Canare, Sumitomo, Van-damme and Tyco to name a few.

Routing, installation and configuration

  • EMI/RMI minimization and signal segregation
  • Electrical load balancing and backup systems (black-out, brown-out, lightning protection)
  • Electrical installation (up to boundary)
  • Physical topologies (L1) - data nodes segmentation (switching)
  • Logical topologies (L2-L7) - TCP/IP routing/LAN

Field and bench testing

Structured cabling (both residential and commercial) is field tested for:

  • Continuity, resistance/attenuation, capacitance and impedance

Where applicable, network, signal and data cabling is tested and benchmarked in accordance with ANSI/TIA/EIA-568, ISO/IEC 15018 (residential) and CAN/CSA-T529 (commercial) - Field Test Specifications and Metrics for post-installation performance.

  • Insertion/return loss and attenuation (ACR series)
  • Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
  • Bit Error Rate (BERT)
  • Near/Far-end crosstalk (NEXT/FEXT)
  • TDR and LAN Analysis (as applicable for troubleshooting)
  • Audio: pink/white noise db capture, frequency response, spectral decay graphs (waterfall) and open space SNR
  • Other tests can be carried out depending on application or by client request

Documentation

  • Layout drawings and master documents
  • Physical and logical network mapping (CAD and/or simplified)
  • Wiring and distribution schematics and diagrams (CAD and/or simplified)
  • Field tests results
  • Technical manuals and simplified troubleshooting guides
  • Bill of Materials

Special applications (Mission-critical and fault-tolerant systems)

For aerospace/MIL-STD applications we can certify up to 600V under CAR Part V Standard 571

  • Aerospace, marine, MIL-STD, MS/AN series (e.g., Canon, AMP, Bendix, Burndy, Deutsch, Aphenol)
  • High/low temp/dust/rugged and water and chemicals-resistant applications
  • High performance broadcast, microwave/telecom

Call us to discuss your special application and mission-critical requirements.
