Residential home cinema, music halls and entertainment rooms

From acoustic room treatments to architectural themes, we can tailor and build complete systems (or separate services) according to your needs, tastes, expectations and budget.

Room Acoustics and Treatments

This is arguably the most important component of any high-end audio room.
Size, shape and construction materials affect sound in many ways and high-end audio rooms benefit tremendously from acoustic treatment.
We've seen it many times: expensive high-end gear that doesn’t perform up to the expectations of the buyer. And the vast majority are attributed to poor room acoustics (if any at all) and improper positioning of speakers.
We don't just 'guess'. We use precision instruments and specialized audiometric software to measure and record a room's natural acoustic behavior (e.g. frequency response, resonance, reverberation, reflectivity, propagation and diffraction) and use this data to make the best decisions on the type, density, and location of insulating materials for efficient sound blocking (preventing sound from entering or leaving a room), sound dampening and diffusion (sound reduction within a room) and correct positioning and directing speaker systems for superior sound quality.

Room acoustic treatments may include installing base traps, diffusers and acoustic panels for walls, ceilings and floors.
For video, it is also important to take into account a room's natural lighting characteristics. Controlling natural light levels (or darkness) and even temperature and humidity levels can provide a much more complete experience to the viewer/listener. We can install automated blinds and controls for artificial lighting, temperature regulation controls and even luxury powered seating.

Behind-wall Cabling (Structured cabling)

Don't skimp on the cables!
Today’s advanced home cinema equipment and systems are demanding networking computers that can process multiple analog and digital signals (electrical and optical).
Often overlooked, cabling, routing and connecting hardware are very important components of an integral high-end home theatre or audio system.
A properly planned behind-wall cabling system (structured cabling) must meet current and future audio and video streaming demands (e.g. 8K/16K/32K and lossless audio) combined with complex data and control functions. In addition, it must meet building code requirements for its intended purpose and location (e.g. walls and ceilings)
We only recommend and install high-end broadcast and data-centre quality cables and interconnecting hardware that meet rigorous technical performance and exceed all provincial building code requirements. We carefully design and plan cable routing to minimize Electro-Magnetic and Radio-Magnetic Interference (EMI/RMI), line noise and crosstalk (unwanted noise and interference between wires) and use recognized testing standards to benchmark installations (see our Technical information and testing standards page for more information).

Top-of-the-line systems may also take advantage of dedicated networking and switching techniques for segmentation and to ensure a optimum signal delivery and data prioritization (See Cabling and Networks page for more information).

Audio

From single to multi-room, and from monaural to multi-channel audio with the latest technologies in object-oriented surround sound formats (Dolby Atmos©, DTS-X©, Razer THX Spatial Audio©); the choices are limitless. We can design and customize a system that suits your needs and desires for maximum performance, quality and upgradeability.

Video

Installing a Home Cinema screen or monitor is not like installing a big-screen TV above a fireplace overmantel. Just like speaker positioning, this process should be carefully planned and there are parameters to consider for best viewing: screen size, distance, field of view, fixation point and angles relative to the viewers as well as projector throw distance and aspect ratios to name a few.
Bigger is not always better; balance and proportionality should be accounted for.
For all your video needs, from projectors, motorized screens and video walls, to the latest and future 8K/16K/32K streaming technologies, we can help you make the right choice to get the most out your system.

Lighting and special effects

Depending on your preference, a wide variety of architectural ambient and mood lighting, fibre-optic star ceiling, and even fully automated theatrical lighting and effects can be implemented. Small and fully automated moving heads, scanners, color changers and gobo projectors are available for home installations (e.g. multi-purpose party rooms).

Speaker systems

Position, position, position! - This is a critical aspect of any high-fidelity audio system. Yet, it is also many times ignored. It requires accurate acoustic measurements, positioning, critical human listening and some experimenting. We take great care at this stage of an installation to ensure the best possible positioning and directivity of floor standing or in-wall/in-ceiling loudspeaker system.

Calibration (Room frequency response and correction)

The fine tuning.
No speaker system —no matter how advanced or expensive— can reproduce all sounds perfectly. By the same token, no room has a perfect acoustic response even with the most sophisticated treatments and speaker placement techniques. It's a compromise.
Room calibration is the final detailing step to achieving a great sounding environment.
We use high-end audio analyzing software and techniques to capture and log a room's initial and final acoustic response and implement tailored calibration schemes.

Media control rooms

We customize and build racks, cabinets and supporting infrastructure to centralize equipment with all required patch bays and implement ultra-quiet cooling and monitoring systems.

Equipment selection and purchasing

There are many manufactures of A/V and lighting equipment with different price points and quality. Unless you wish a specific product or brand, we are unbiased to particular manufacturers and vendors. We recommend equipment or systems based on quality, reputation, warranty, technical requirements, specifications, performance and application.

Documentation

We thoroughly document every step of the build process and provide a final Master Document containing detailed layout drawings, acoustic profiles, electrical schematic diagrams, bill of materials and tests results in a neat package.
This helps for future upgrades, modifications and adds technical completeness.

If you are thinking about renovating or finishing your basement and planning on investing in a home theatre system or making an entertainment or party room; that would be the right time to think about a behind-wall structured cabling system.
